The tire carrier arrived quickly, everything was well packaged, and installation was easy (be prepared to drill holes in your Jeep). Top tier customer service from Offroad Elements!
Have had my eye on this for 2 years now but always resisted pulling the trigger. I now have mixed emotions, i'm ecstatic that I finally have one, and am saddened that I didn't do it before. I got a chance to chat with the guys behind DV8 and you could tell that were enthusiasts first, salesman 2nd. Great product from a great company at a great price.
I received the carrier in an oversized box with blow up foam protecting it very well. After unboxing and checking hardware, I did see that I was shorted the screws for the driver side plate to attach. No problem, coincidentally stock driveshaft bolts were the same size, probably stronger, and fit well. Hinge install was fairly straight forward. Leave everything loose until you are ready for final tightening. Have a friend help with putting the carrier into the hinges, and lube helps. Once passenger side bolts are in, load up your spare, then line up the driver side plate and drill. Mark twice, drill once. There are 2 layers of metal on all but the very top two holes. There is a clear zinc plated plate with two holes.....this is a backing plate for those top two holes. It is not mentioned in the instructions. Tighten the plate, don't overtighten, then line up the driver side portion of the carrier with the cam washer, voila, you're done. I chose to drill two holes in the inner part of the tubing to run my LP/3rd brake light wires. Powdercoat is typical texture, but does seem thicker than normal. Would recommend to anyone in need of a heavy duty carrier.
Wouldn't be fair to compare it to other body mounted tire carriers, costs half of any other on the market. For the price, you can't beat it. Demand outweighs supply, DV8 can't keep em in stock. Instructions are vague but it ain't rocket science.
Sturdy and functional, and looks good. Instruction are not complete, had a hard time finding what bolt/part goes where and steps missing. Also rattles badly where you can hear it inside that cabin. Guessing where the hitch pin locks in place. But all in all cant beat for the price.
Solid build, great look, works fantastic. It's new so there instructions are a little off, but they will help and talk with you...I would give it the thumbs up. A great look for my JK....thanks
