Builders pushing the newer Jeep JLU platforms in rocks quickly find the factory underbody still leaves critical drivetrain components exposed. The transmission, transfer case, fuel tank, and exhaust all sit in areas that take abuse on difficult trails, and factory protection often creates edges and drop points that can hang up on obstacles. With the engine mount changes on the 2021-2022 3.6L platform, underbody packaging changed as well, which is why this skid system was developed specifically for these model years.
The Motobilt MB1099-42 Skid Plate System was designed to solve that with a true flush belly approach built specifically for the 2021-2022 Jeep JLU 3.6L. This 4 piece skid system uses keyed overlapping panels and recessed hardware to create a smooth underside with no exposed bolt heads or lips to catch on rocks. The boat side design improves how the Jeep transitions across obstacles while the integrated crossmember adds strength and rigidity to the chassis layout.Designed from a builder’s perspective, this is more than armor. It is part of the underbody structure. Heavy 3/16 inch steel construction protects critical components while maintaining serviceability with a dedicated oil pan access panel, removable skid sections, and a removable transmission skid access panel for direct access to the front driveshaft yoke at the transfer case. That access is especially useful for trail repairs if a front driveshaft u-joint fails, and it makes routine maintenance much easier without pulling the skid system apart. Notched ends allow a vehicle lift to still be used for repairs, something often overlooked in skid system design.
