TeraFlex Falcon 3.1 Shocks Review

Posted by Gillian Fournier on 7th Mar 2017

Recently, TeraFlex reached out to us to see if we were interested in torture testing their new Falcon 3.1 shocks. Of course we said yes! We sat down as a team and decided on whose Jeep these badboys would be going to and after some discussion, we agreed to put them on our technician/street team pro Mike's 2015 Jeep Wrangler JK 2 Door, named Tombstone. Here is his initial review on install and on road performance.

"First impressions out of the box…they are HUGE. The shock bodies and shafts are massive. Once taking them out of the packaging, the workmanship and attention to detail is immediately apparent. They even came with a hand written note! These shocks were clearly made with the enthusiast in mind. I cannot wait to put them through their paces.

Install

The front Falcon shocks fit like a glove. The offset mounting stud perfectly pushes the shock away from the frame. The reservoir fits snuggly without rubbing against the inner fender liner. The bracket that doesn’t allow the shock body to turn was simple to insert in the shock tower, and an added benefit of this design is you only need one wrench to tighten the top nut, no more holding two wrenches. The axle side mounts in the normal shock position.

The rear Falcon shocks have an offset design on the axle side, which requires minor drilling on the outside mounting tab. This allows the new offset pin to be bolted in. The upper tab on the shock allows one bolt to be started before the shock is placed in the upper mount; this is extremely helpful during installation, as it allows the shock to be supported while threading in the second bolt. Next, is the part that requires some finesse. Because of the new outboard mounting location, grease must be applied to the pin and bushing; then some force must be applied to the shock past a few threads. Once the nut is started on a few treads simply tighten the nut and they will slide right on. The new mounting closer to the tires will aid in avoiding rocks on the trails.

Ride

The Falcon 3.1 shocks have a firm ride, yet softly absorb the horrible bumps and pot holes of the New England roads. Driving on the highway my Jeep floated over the uneven pavement with the perfect amount of feedback of the harsh road below. On the back roads I found myself aiming for the parts of the road torn up by the plows and frost to test out the function and new design. The bumps were absorbed seamlessly by the TeraFlex Falcon shocks.

Not only do the Falcon 3.1 shocks look outstanding, they perform amazing on the road; the perfect combination of firm and soft handling. I cannot wait to test these shocks on the trails." - Mike G. Team Offroad Elements Technician and Street Team Pro

We look forward to testing these shocks out once mudding season ends and trail systems begin opening up for the wheeling season! Have any questions in the meantime? Feel free to drop us a line 774-82-9948 or email us at sales@offroadelements.com.
