Say "Hello" To The New Jeep Wrangler JLU Rubicon: Exterior Changes Thus Far

Posted by Gillian Fournier on 30th Mar 2017

Considering there have been photos of different parts and pieces of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL that have been leaked over the past few months, from the hood to the possible grill, it was only a matter of time before a picture or rendering of the entire JL would make its way into the wonderful world of the inter-webs. The real deal. The mac daddy. The creme de la creme. One of the member of the JLWrangler Forums posted, and has been verified with their sources, to be the actual 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited Rubicon model.

Here is a list of some of the differences that have been made, compared to the current JK Unlimited Rubicon:

  • Fully removable roof (YESSSSSS!!!)
  • Fully removable doors
  • Taller windows with more rounded corners and taller windshield
  • Turn signals on the side view mirrors
  • Side view mirrors are attached higher on the doors and with new moldings
  • Belt line that runs the length of the vehicle from a-pillar to the rear
  • Larger front bumper design that extends further out
  • Fog lights have been relocated from the middle of the bumper to the edges
  • Front fenders end higher
  • Front marker lights have been relocated from under the headlights to the front fenders, in an LED strip style lighting
  • More upright grill with kinked slats (matching the previous leaked grill photos
  • Headlights cut into the outer-most slots
  • Longer hood that appears to be less angular, with less of a forward front rake than the current model
  • Rubicon hood seems to be similar to the JK, with black vents on either side of the center hump
  • Hood latches have been moved forward and toward the edge of the hood
  • Vent and boomerang styled detail on front quarter panels
  • Fold-down windshield with two side hinges instead of the centered hinges on the current model
  • Taller windshield that appears to sit lower and with flatter glass, compared to the more convex windshields on the current model
  • Exposed and stubbier door hinges
  • Full length drip rails/rain guards that run the length of the vehicle
  • Tail lights which feature a wrap-around design
  • Slightly more cargo/trunk space
  • Rear roll bars connect to the body at a more forward position
