We wanted to design a skid system that could withstand hard rock crawling under a fully built JKU/JK. There was only one answer to that and it was a skid system constructed entirely from 3/16" HRPO steel. At OHF we don't feel aluminum is up to the task of being used for skid plates. Aluminum gouges easily and sticks to the rocks more than steel will. We feel the extra weight is worth the durability and strength you get from steel skid plates. We also use countersunk bolts for a completely smooth sliding surface under your Jeep. The engine skid and transfer case skid also have their own standalone supports in weak areas to eliminate any potential failure areas.
